The Legacy Society for Planned Giving
By making a “planned gift” — a gift through your estate — you can ensure the future success of Gift of Life Howie's House and have the satisfaction of knowing that your values will live on through the loving care we provide.

“The service that the Howie’s House provides is desperately needed by so many people at what is often the most difficult time in their lives. That’s the most important reason that we decided to make this bequest…naming the Gift of Life Howie’s House as our beneficiary was really easy. It was a lot easier than doing our taxes!” —Pat, with her husband, Jay, past guests and Howie’s House Legacy Society Members
Have you ever wondered how the people and charities you care about will fair when you are no longer here to help them?
A good way to make certain that your values live on is by writing down what’s important to you. Another is by making provisions in your estate plan to have your charitable support continue.
By making a “planned gift” — a gift through your estate — to Gift of Life Howie’s House, you will help to ensure that we can maintain our affordable fees and broad array of services for all who need us, both now and in the future.
Have you already included a gift in your will or trust? Please fill out this form to let us know! We would love to thank you for your generosity.
You can ensure our future with a gift that costs nothing now.
Since opening our doors in 2011, Gift of Life Howie’s House has provided over 100,000 nights of affordable lodging, 374,000 home-cooked meals, free transportation and other supportive services to over transplant families. Each night, House guests sleep well knowing that their needs are being met as their loved one goes through the process of qualifying for, receiving, and recovering from an organ transplant.
By making a planned gift to Gift of Life Howie’s House, you will help to ensure that we can maintain our affordable fees and a broad array of services for all who need us, now and in the future.
Making a planned gift is easy.
Planned gifts can take many forms including cash, stocks, bonds, or other property. People who make charitable gifts through their estate plans may find that they are able to commit to larger gifts than they thought possible. And there are often tax advantages that benefit the donor, the estate and the beneficiaries.

Four Ways to Make a Planned Gift
1. Bequests
Name us as a beneficiary when you write your will or, if you already have a will, add a codicil amending it to include us.
Bequests can be a percentage of the remainder of your estate or a specific dollar amount. You can also make your bequest contingent upon the death of your spouse or another beneficiary.

Sample language for making a bequest:
“I give, devise, and bequeath to Gift of Life Howie’s House, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization located at 401 Callowhill Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19123, EIN 26-0585694, or its successor-in-interest, [insert dollar amount or percentage] for its unrestricted use and purposes.”
2. Charitable Gift Annuities (CGA)
In return for your irrevocable gift to us of cash or stock, we agree to pay you an annuity (a fixed rate of return) over your lifetime. Annuity rates are based on the age of the person receiving the annuity.
You may be entitled to receive a tax deduction for your gift the year it is made, and there may be other tax benefits if your gift included appreciated assets. Annuity payments may be partially tax free.
3. Life Insurance Policies
Name us as a beneficiary to a new or existing life insurance policy by completing a beneficiary designation form provided by your insurer.
4. Beneficiary Designations
Do you have an IRA, 401(k), life-insurance policy, or any other assets not included in your will? If so, these are called non-probate assets and you must plan your beneficiaries for them separately. Use this online tool to make your plans and designate us as a beneficiary of one or more of these assets.
Enjoy recognition during your lifetime as a Legacy Society member.

Donors who notify us that they have made planned gifts will be recognized — during their lifetimes — as members of our prestigious Legacy Society. Members will be recognized in the quarterly newsletter and on our website and will be invited to our yearly President’s Appreciation Reception.
While gifts of all amounts are appreciated, donors who have made planned gifts of $10,000 or more will also be recognized on our Legacy Society Wall in the Howie’s House living room.
